I intentionally did not order the heavy payload package, as it rides stiffer, and I like a half ton vs. three quarter ton for the nicer drive while not heavily loaded.
On a Crew Cab 4WD, the 3.3L and 2.7L Ecoboost come with the light duty frame and 6500/6600 lbs GVWR, the 5.0L and the 3.5L Ecoboost come with the Heavy Duty Frame and 7000 lbs GVWR. Frames were confirmed by members here previously. Some information here from Ford.
You can get the HDPP and it's frame, as an option on 157" wheel base Crew Cab 6.5' bed 3.5L Ecoboost and 5.0L trucks. These trucks are extremely rare and normally require ordering. They have payloads in between Standard payload 1/2 ton 5.0L/3.5L Ecoboost trucks and 3/4 ton truck payloads.
Actually members confirmed that 4x4 crew cab 2.7s seem to all come with the HD frame, regardless of what Ford claims. Mine is HD.
I'll let you guys know what frame I get in a couple weeks. At this time, I'm assuming the HPP, same as I have on my '17, 3.5ECO, 3:55ELD, 9.75, 145"SCab. 7050GVWR, Trailer Tow. Does the HPP designate Heavy Payload Package? I didn't order that package. Only difference between the two trucks, the '20 is a 5.0 with 3:73LD.
My truck has the HPP frame, and it doesn't have the HDPP (heavy duty payload package), so doubt it stands for that. But now I'm curious what it stands for too. Ha ha.
There are some other threads that deal with this as well. As other have said, Ford is not clear on what configuration gets what frame, and it doesn't seem super consistent. My SCrew 5.0 and regular tow package has the HD frame. There is a sticker under the cab on the passenger side on the trucks that show the frame code, if you want to check it on a truck you are considering buying. Here is a cheat sheet I found a couple of years ago (somewhere on this forum), that covered 2018 model year. I can't say if that is still valid, but may be. Still doesn't tell you which truck would get which frame, but maybe a little helpful. I noticed Bisonp's link above is to the other thread that had this image.
