I've got a core from replacement of mine and was doing to buy the full rebuild kit to have a local trans tech go through it and upgrade with the NEW Ford updated CDF drum AND use new higher torque capacity raybestos GPZ clutches and Steels

Probably looking to be around $3800 plus your good core , my friends shop is about 800 in labor to swap it out and replace, takes about half a day while you wait.. Way less than Ford dealerships and better clutches.

If you're interested you can DM me we're located in Shippensburg PA

I think there are two good options to avoid that dealer quote.
Buy a new/reman from Ford and have a shop swap it in. Should be a lot less.
Have a shop rebuild it with a new CDF drum.

i've got a 2018 w/100k miles on it and i'm in the same boat. mine shifted great, never had an issue until it made a clunk and quit using gears 3 thru 7. Dealership says about $8500 to replace the transmission. They said the updated CFD drum is on backorder so they can't even rebuild it. Can anyone verify if this is true? If i go to an outside shop, i wonder if there are 3rd party updated CFD drums available.

They're in cycles of backorder because of demand.

I have one in stock from the last backorder cycle that took about 3-4 weeks to get from Ford.

Our $3800 upgraded Reman has the new designed CDF drum as part of the build.

You can get them you've just gotta wait a little bit as Ford is making them at a feverish pace to fix the big problem with their 6R and 10R transmissions

For anyone who may be interested, here is a status of my situation. I called Ford corporate and they said they don't have any assistance programs available right now, but will notify me (and all Ford owners) if one does become available.

But on a bright side, I found a local guy who was the transmission guy at a local Ford shop but now has his own shop. Said he has done a ton of these and will rebuild mine (with updated CDF drum) for less than $3k. I'm calling that a win. I don't know if I can give out his info here, but pm me if you are in the North Alabama area and need a 10r80 rebuilt and i will give you his contact info.

I checked into this, and it seems this Stern Law class action relates to the dual clutch transmission used in some Ford models. It wouldn't hurt to give them a call to be sure.

However, there are several other class actions that do concern the Ford 10 speed auto. Just google "Ford 10R80" and you will find plenty of info.

My 2019 has been back to the dealership 5 times. 2x software reprograms, valve body replacement, new transmission, and most recently some valve work. In normal mode the truck started to hesitate again in lower gears so I mainly keep it in sport mode which helps some but it's not perfect. Initially I had failure to downshift with harsh banging coming from the transmission. This was at highway speeds and scared the crap out of me. Since then, the transmission hunts and stutters.
