You are correct. When walking up and unlocking the headlights are not on, only the parking lights. But when you do unlock it the parking lights will stay on for much more that 2-3 seconds, more like 15 to 20 seconds.

thanks everyone it was set to off in settings which is why I think they were going out so quick. Appreciate all the help.
