wifes escape has it and neither of us like it. We always shut it off when we get in.

1. Push the deactivate button after every start.
2. Forescan for permanent disable (could always reactiviate it later).
3. Get used to it. Lots of people hated it at first but then grew on to it.

I was option 3.

I drove a loaner with the auto start stop and it drove me nuts. Yes, you can turn it off by pressing the button on the center stack. What they don't tell you is that button defaults to "on" every time you start the truck, even if you deliberately turned it off the last time you drove. The engine had a tendency of shutting off at the worst possible times and the vibration at shutoff/startup is unsettling if you're the type of person who pays close attention to what their vehicle is doing. While there are ways to manipulate when it kicks in by playing with your brake pressure, that's not a game I'm interested in playing. If I want my engine off, I'll turn the key to off. There are many people who like it - good for them. For me, it's so annoying that if it weren't something you can permanently disable, it would instantly rule out the 2018. Make sure you get a substantial test drive in with lots of stop lights to decide for yourself. If you don't like it, that feature will drive you insane.

hit the button to turn it off (but I know, hitting a button is hard )
drive in sport mode, it turns it off as well (but Ill get worse gas mileage.... in a truck)

I barely notice it, its A LOT more subtle then my aunt's X5 was
I thought I wouldn't love it, I barely notice it now

So who is the company that does the update to turn this feature completely off? I am very surprised they didnt make it like the BMWs where if you click the button off one time, It stays OFF. I mean, I would just click the button off everytime, but i see it getting a little irritating after a bunch of short trips. I personally hate the feature as well.

It's an additional step that needs to be repeated every time you get in the vehicle. There's absolutely no reason this shouldn't default to the last setting. If you drop $40k+ on a truck, a few $2 gallons of gas are inconsequential in comparison to an engine that can turn off right when the light turns green.

If you think auto start/stop is bad on a starter. UPS starts & stops their trucks all day long with out any issues. I drove for them for 10 years & don't remember having to replace starters any more than normal.

I have driven a couple of new trucks with auto start/stop it is a little odd to begin with but after driving them for a little bit no big deal. Certainly wouldn't keep me from owning one.

you also have to get in the truck and touch the button to start it in the first place
thats annoying too, I wish the truck would remember I pushed it to start it last time, then started the truck on its own every time I jumped in
