2018 F150...100% auto stop/start
#111
I’ve actually noticed that it’s the same group of people who say that the EcoBoosts will never take off, and that the V8 is the only possible engine for a truck, who are claiming that the auto start/stop is no good and will soon be abandoned. Luddites?

I completely agree. It’s smooth and seamless as can be and if you pay a little bit of attention, you soon learn how to control it a bit.

Maybe that means I am only a Luddite Lite?

Some people dislike it legitimately. Most that can careless about gas savings or if it's a performance vehicle are understandable. The ones that hate it because they can't control it are the ones I believe were referenced.

If you think auto start/stop is bad on a starter. UPS starts & stops their trucks all day long with out any issues. I drove for them for 10 years & don't remember having to replace starters any more than normal.
I have driven a couple of new trucks with auto start/stop it is a little odd to begin with but after driving them for a little bit no big deal. Certainly wouldn't keep me from owning one.

Just wait till you need a Starter for a stop/start vehicle down the road. LOL. Cha ching. There goes all the gas $ you saved all those years!

I rent cars of all brands and the start stop on all brands does not work for A/C when it is 100 - 120 degrees. When the motor stops it gets too hot immediately. If you like it hot, super. I don't, that's why I buy cars with A/C in them.
Edit: Notice I said NOTHING about drive-ability.

Summer rolled around, and WTF!?! It kills the A/C at EVERY stoplight. Not only does the compressor (clearly) stop, but it also spins the blower down to a lower speed. The cabin temp would jump 7-10 degrees F before the engine would kick back on. I'm sorry, but that is not acceptable.
If Ford wanted *** to be a true year-round system they should have not programed the blower to spin down, and gone with a secondary electric compressor, or at least made the stop algorithm less aggressive when there is a call for A/C. My comfort isn't worth $3 bucks of gas annually. Peace out ***.

You just proved MY point, not his.

I had it in our previous vehicle (Acura MDX) and have it in our '18 F150....I wasn't a huge fan of it in the MDX implementation but in the F150 it's much better. You don't even notice it the majority of the time and if you do care about mileage it does seem to make a difference when driving local roads and stop n go traffic.

The comment you made about your circle of friends in car clubs that sold there cars because of it is absurd, most car club enthuiast know a thing or two about mechanical aspects of vehicles so 1. Why did they buy the car to begin with and 2. Are they that bright they didn't know any of the multiple ways to disable it.
what else ya got?

Exactly. The system is a joke during the summer months. This is what eventually forced my hand to implement the full disable of *** with FORscan. When I got my truck in January, running the heat, it was tolerable, if not almost unnoticeable. I'll give Ford kudos on how well it is implemented into the driveline...
