2018 B & 0 Stereo/Sync issues
I've got a 2018 Lariat SCREW with the B & O Soundsystem, and I'm having issues with it. I upgraded to Sync 3.4, through Cyan Labs, in the spring, and everything seemed to be working fine until issues started popping up in September. The system never remembers my phone for Bluetooth, and every time I start the truck I get the message screen about automatic updates. Occasionally, it get stuck in rearview camera mode, where the backup camera works, but when I start driving the screen goes blank, only to go back to the camera when I come to a stop. I can usually fix that by doing a soft reset with the power and fast forward buttons. Now my latest issue is that Apple Play doesn't come on the screen at all, even though I get prompts about Apple Play, and my phone shows it's being used by Apple Play. I tried using Waze through my new iPhone 15, which was plugged into the USB, and the map wouldn't come up on the screen, but the voice prompts came through the stereo. The touchscreen still works (when the screen isn't blank), and stereo works as it should, otherwise. Apple Play was working fine before I upgraded my phone.
I've tried doing a master reset, but when I push the continue button, the screen just freezes. Drove around like that for 45 minutes, and nothing changed, so it never did try to reset. I've also tried updating to the latest version of Sync 3.4, but I get a message that the update failed every time. Just installed a new battery in the truck a few weeks ago, thinking that might be the issue, but nothing changed (did cure a couple of non-Sync related things, though).
Do I need to replace the APIM to get everything working properly again? Is there anything else I should try first?

I too have a new iPhone 15 Pro Max, a 2018 running the same Sync 3.4 via Cyan Labs, BUT.. I'm using a Carlinkit wireless Carplay adapter and a Proclip USA wireless charging mount. I have not plugged this phone into the truck's USB socket to see what happens, but I will.
My only thought right now is maybe the phone is pulling too much charging current from the APIM's USB circuit, and it's causing some wonky behavior. (This would be weird.. a good electronics designer would account for overload conditions on a USB socket without shutting down the main device's internal power rails or letting them fall out of voltage spec, which could cause some weird behavior).
Do you have any other USB loads plugged in at the same time as the phone?
Have you tried a different cable?
Have you tried a friend or acquaintance's older model iPhone?

The problems have been going on for almost 3 months. The CarPlay issue is only the latest one. There is nothing else plugged into the other USB at this time, although I'd like to plug my dash cam back into it.
I've only had the new phone for 2 weeks. Had a 13 before that, and CarPlay worked fine. It's plugged into a brand new Anker USB to USB-C cord.

I am currently running build 22251. I've tried updating to the most current version on Cyan Labs, but the update fails immediately. Between that and not being able to do a master reset, that's why I'm wondering if the APIM has gone bad..

You should update ASAP to the newer released 23188 version that addresses it, and it will be fixed. I think the current best option is either 23188, or roll back to a prior version to 22251.
Check if you are able to do a reformat install (there is a check for this as part of cyan labs) and it will wipe the APIM and install the newer version. 2018 can normally perform one but if the APIM was ever replaced it could have been a new part that does not work with reformats so it is best to check. I almost accidentally reformatted a 2017 that had a new APIM installed at some point, glad I checked...

I've been trying to update, but keep getting an INSTL_ERR12 message. Can't do a master reset either. Looked up the code, and it appears I'm not the only one having this problem. Found this link to the fix https://community.cyanlabs.net/t/api...es-solved/8858 , but I have no idea how to do it. The only way I did the first update was by watching the video the guy from NaviUpgrade did.
Oh yes, that thread is spot on. 22251 bug, use Cynalabs interrogator to verify...
I have not dealt with this myself but reading that page what I would do:
Did you try creating a RW cleaner USB? This is under the Official Ford Solution section.
Then it appears you can run an install for 23188.
It also says a reformat will clear, so I would try that second.
All else fails, I would try posting on Cyanlabs. I have before, and they are very helpful.

I'm pretty much computer illiterate, so reading that thread was like reading a foreign language. Should I try the RW cleaner first? Not sure what the CyanLabs interrogator does, or how to go about using it.

I believe and am very certain that all the issues with the screen, radio, etc. Has to do with the built in gps ... Fords software....
i had a 2018 xlt 2.7 5.5 bed... with the factory gps.... even after the updates... I wanted to punch the screen, it never worked properly. The arrow was always way off to my precise location, had the black screen, controls would stop working, updates were always going on.
i did the soft reboot way to many times. Disconnected the battery over night. Nothing ever made a permanent fix. It would work for a day or 2 and then start acting up all over again.
I ended up trading in the truck for same year, same trim but with bliss, longer bed and the 3.5 engine........ did not have the factory gps....
Todate..... i have not had the tiniest hint of any glitches.
I know forscan can remove satellite radio.... maybe the gps is removable aswell.
thats my suggestion.... delete/remove/diasble.... the built in gps and see what it does.
i have the 15 max pro, use both the wireless option and the wired option.... no issues at all to date and Ive had my phone for 2 months and had the truck for about 3 yrs now build date of Feb 18'
