For those not familiar with the 18' 5.0 oil pain set up, here it is. From my experience, 9qts of oil is excited to spew out and splash off the tranny and control bar. I'll figure something out, I hope. Might try the milk jug, might try and a modified flex p trap... I'm curious as to how the dealers do it.
I am going to have to change mine for the second time in a few days. I dread it, the oil plug and location is a disaster plus the way all 9 quarts gush out is messy. I went and bought a new pan just for this occasion hopefully I can contain the mess better this time. Really liked my 16 with steel pan and fumoto valve.

RE the oil change: I'm adding a fitting and 12" hose with a cap. Simply pull the cap and oil comes out the hose. Stow hose out of the way otherwise. Same way my lawn mower oil drain works. Simple, clean, effective. Use quality AN fittings and nobody will call it a "hack" job.

The 9 qts spewing out wasn't too grim the first time I drained mine. I had the front tires each sitting on a couple landscape tiles so raised maybe 4 inches to allow me to get under there better. Maybe that gave it a better angle than flat? The oil filter also mainly drained out the back "spillway" so NEXT time I'll position the second pan at the back(dooh!).
I was unsuccessful loosening the plug just enough to start the drain process. It seemed to be an all or nothing proposition to me?
Why not use a vacuum pump to suck the oil out of the motor? I have a pump I bought from west marine to use on my boat and have been using it on cars too. It will suck every bit of oil out if the oil is hot. When I get to 10,000 I’ll use it and will never mess with that yellow plug I have heard about
