Does anyone know if this clacking sound does any damage, or is just more annoying than anything? I also notice a whistle sound on my V8.

I'm about to buy a Platinum truck with the 3.5EB. Initially wanted to get a 5.0 thinking it was more reliable (and a V8), even if it is a bit less powerful overall. But turns out the V6 seems to be at least equally reliable, even though it has 2 turbos and engine is more stressed. Oh, and it has better fuel economy too. Was still debating the issue, but this thread made me feel better about my choice. Ha ha. What I didn't like is the freaking fake V8 noise inside the cabin, especially in sport mode. Can it be disabled somehow? Thx.

That clicking noise wasn't actually what I was was looking for and I cannot hear that noise in video while I'm driving at any speed. So I want to clear that up anyways..

I could be wrong.. As from what I understand the Grill Shutters only open and close in regards to the engines temperature needs.

How many times they open and close I haven't researched it that much.

I know when I tried moving one of the fins while in the open position, it seemed pretty solid.

I would be curious to know if they were disconnected in the open position (if even possible) if that could possibly eliminate one of the noises. Whether it's the chatter some hear or the pop some of us hear once we let off the gas pedal.
I never did take a picture of that pump. I'll go out and take one now.

Here are the pictures of that electric pump that is making noise in that video. Again it's not something I heard while I'm driving.
I was trying to find that pop after accelerating. It's the only noise I hear and if you listen after I accelerate you can hear the pop.
I have to mount the camera so its seeing the back of the engine and/or the area where the transmission meets the engine.

I doubt the noise is the grill shutters, they don't change position all that often/instant. My understanding is the shutters close at highway speeds for fuel economy/aerodynamic purposes. They wouldn't by constantly cycling the shutters depending on throttle position. It has to be either the VCT system, or Intake Runners, those are two mechanical items that would respond instant/fast to throttle input.

more reliable? The mpg is actually worse in every situiation other than driving on a flat highway.

I agree. Otherwise you would be hearing the noise across the entire line up and not just with the 5.0.

Hey everyone - I know there's been a few videos posted already, but I thought I'd share mine as well. Obviously many members have posted in this thread about the whining, whistling, and rattling heard with the 2018 5.0s. I'd definitely say my truck has all of these noises. As far as the whine goes, it sounds to me like the 10spd has a bit of a mild whine at all times. I can hear it at low speeds for sure. However, I'm not sure how many others are experiencing the increased whine/screech during shifts. You can certainly hear in these videos that the noise begins as the truck starts to shift and ends just after the truck is finished shifting. Other than a couple of posts I've seen this noise during shifts hasn't been discussed nearly as much as the whistle or the rattle, so if anyone has thoughts please let me know.

Already posted about my dealer's diagnosis on these noises, but here's a refresher: I took my truck in to have the whine and the rattle diagnosed and the dealer said transmission noises were normal. They said the rattle was a suspension issue, made a small adjustment and said it was gone - that is not the case at all and seemed like a pretty weak attempt at fixing it or a diversion to eliminate my concern about the rattle. I actually put on a set of Boss Coilovers, SPC UCAs, and replaced rear shocks and blocks since then. Rattle is still there so it's not a suspension issue (but we already knew that).

I have had nothing but trouble with my truck. I have the same ratatatat noises. Really noticeable when truck is cold after sitting a few hours. But I can hear it like yours all the time in between shifts. It is killing me.... Dealer said its normal and we took out another 2018 v8 and it does it as well. So I told him FORD has a MAJOR problem as I have driven 5 others at additional dealers and NONE had that noise. So 2 out of 7 is a statistical disaster. I told them just because you show me another broken one doesn't make mine NORMAL..... Videos uploaded here. We need to all get a list of VIN's together with this issue and get a class action together.

I have the same rattle can sound on slow decel. Had the tsb 2262 done and it helped the trans characteristics. But I have this bad chugging which feels like a misfire.started at about 800 miles and has gotten worse. Now has 6200 miles. New plugs did not help.
