Here is an update from what I found yesterday at another dealer. This is a small dealer with only one service manager who has been doing it a long time. He (service manager) said that if there was an oiling issue with the phasers or something else due to the VCT seloniod being a problem that it would throw a code. I also tried the only 5.0L on their lot, which was a January build. Like the Sept build on the other lot, it also made the rattling noise and you could also feel the VCT seloniod vibrate like in the September build truck (and mine). It was 82 deg outside at the time.

At this point I'm not overly worried about the rattle, as it seems to be a software thing that it likely isn't doing any harm. That said, I think Ford needs to know about it and do a PCM update for it (and the popping some are having). Like I mentioned in a different thread, just not sure the best way for us to let Ford know in a way that will have influence on getting a fix.

Dealing with 2 separate noises in my 2018 f150 w 15,000 miles. I'm getting the rattle intermitingly while light to moderate acceleration and let off. The other thing I got is quite a noticeable single knock on moderate to heavy acceleration. I'm noticing nothing wrong with the performance from the engine or transmission. On another note on all 3 oil changes that I did the oil was slightly below acceptable level is anyone else noticing this 5.0's consumption of oil?

I have the same rat-tat-tat noise at low speeds when letting off the accelerator. New 5.0L sport truck less than 3 months old.
Is at the dealer right now, we'll see what they come up with. Not pleased with the transmission either, but that's another topic.
I'll try to update if I can get it fixed.

ThAnk you please let me know what they say. Because if they give you some crap and say that it's normal I'm just not gonna waste my time. I'm not crazy about the 10 speed either. We probably don't like it because it has to shift gears so much. Overall I love my truck I mean the thing is a rocket when you press the gas. But this rattle seems like a pretty common issue on here already.

Depending on the source of the rattle and if you keep getting the runaround from your dealer, you can always open a case with Ford corporate, however that works.

Meanwhile, if the rattle is coming from the exhaust AFTER the catalysts, then go ahead and invest in a good aftermarket system for about a grand... something like Borla (which I plan to do, even after spending over $600 on piecing together a pretty good system already). Yeah, we shouldn't have to! but... sometimes if you want an issue fixed you have to take matters into your own hands, like the factory shock absorbers on these trucks: garbage. Install Bilsteins. blah blah blah...

Then, try driving your truck with a little more manual involvement from you, the driver. Select M for manual, then Sport, and semi-auto your way down the road through traffic. See how you like the trans then. But you must anticipate shifts and call for them sooner than you think due to the momentary delay in communication. If you've ridden motorcycles and/or driven 3-pedal H-pattern transmissions, this should be a near no-brainer for you fellers.

Good luck!

Would you compare the sound to a spark plug knock? Seems like my truck has the same issues/sounds.

This is it
UPDATE-- had 4 mechanics at Ford looking at it and not sure yet. They are dealing with engineers in Deerborn but can't get a direct answer until they go through all the protocols on replicating the sound..

I have this exact same sound. Worst when cold, gets better as it gets warmer. Does it on deceleration, only while in motion. Does not do it while remaining stationary using brakes and using accelerator while in Drive.

A lot of weird sounds on this thread. My new 2018 whistles and clicks, but nothing like some of these sounds. I usually figure trucks make noises....rattles do send me off the deep end though.
