Default 2017 STX Tail Light Piece Fell Off...Help!

I知 installing my tailgate assist and I知 following this video.

Everything is coming together nicely but when removing the tail light a plastic piece fell out. It was the step at 2:40 in the video.

I popped mine out but a small plastic piece also fell out. Here痴 a picture of it. Any idea where it goes?

Anyone? I updated the picture.

I’m not sure if I even need it...but obviously it was there before I opened it so I’d like to put it back on.

Wow, didn't even know they had an assistant.

Surprised there's a need for an assistant. With the tailgate so light, I have problems not pulling the damn thing out of the catches. I have to pick it up lightly and slow to keep from pulling it out of the bottom catch slots.

If anything, I think they need to make the tailgate heavier. Never had these issues on any of my trucks including the 2010 and 2012 F150s.

See the aluminum tab with a hole in it at the top left of your picture? That's where it goes. It's supposed to help with alignment of the pin that sticks out of the top of the taillight when it's inserted into the aluminum tab.

I don't think it makes a huge difference, I had one fall out, didn't know where it belonged either and my right side taillight has been without it ever since.

The assist is helpful on the heavier gate with the built in step. Also with the auto open gate so it doesn稚 slam down.

Wow, didn't even know that existed. Didn't even know there was a want for this feature?

Thanks for the heads up.

Default How-To Install- OEM Tailgate damper "tailgate assist" for 2015/2016

This is a very popular modification for those trucks that didn't have it from the factory.

Long thread, but it's a good read.
