Default 2016 F150 XLT rusting transmission fluid lines at 70k miles

my son's F150 is in the shop for shifting issues and the dealers has identified rusting lines between the trans and the cooler as being the cause of a fluid leak.

Ford ESP Premium not covering since its rust. Really? The lines aren't stainless? Steel rusts folks. Unpainted steel even more so.

Anyone had this problem? My view its a factor defect. Also arent these sealed transmissions with no dipstick? Our 2008 Expedition was. No way to check or add fluid..

but the lines should not rust if made from proper materials and certainly not in four years

See dipstick below.

You have to fill here as well using a fluid pump.

The pictures come from the 2016 Ford Work Shop Manual.

I have seen steel lines rust through but not in four years, but I'm not in a treated roads area. They're not going to use stainless since regular steel is easier and cheaper to work with.

If you look at the webpage for ESP https://fordprotect.ford.com/premiumcare/, it states this:
All plans cover your transmission, including gaskets, seals, and internal parts. On 4x4 and AWD vehicles, the transfer case and internal components are also covered. Only Ford Protect PremiumCARE protects external items like transmission mounts, cooler lines, and linkage.

BUT, if you check the brochure they clearly do not list cooler lines in the transmission section....but they list metal brakes lines as covered. You may have a case if you push it with Ford but who knows. At a minimum maybe shared cost.
