2016 F150 XLT rusting transmission fluid lines at 70k miles
#21
I have. Just pulled it into the garage and found the problem. Lines rusted out in the very front behind the bumper/rad assembly. I have 110k on the truck though. New line are roughly 150 and looks like it will take about an hour to 2 to change out. Looks to me like tour being overcharged.

I’m dealing with this now. The cooler assembly is a ball of rust. I couldn’t remove the trans lines from this unit if I wanted to. Funny thing is the other ends of all 4 lines look like the day I bought it new. I suspect dissimilar-metal corrosion in combination with road salt was the cause.
All parts and hardware cost me $400 from the dealer. I think the comment above of a 2 hr swap is a big under estimate. I just spent 2 hrs prepping the job. Removed the grill and loosened and removed all the hanger bolts. I suspect another 3 hrs to remove and install and then another 2hrs to put all the peripherals back on and top off the fluids. I am working on my back though.

Job done. Total time 10 hrs. Very surprised how much trans fluid I had to add, 3.5 quarts. The engine light did come on for the first time when I was positioning the truck in the garage.

2016 XLT Sport 4x4 Crew Cab, same issue with transmission lines are rusted out at 82,000km. I've owned many vehicles in my time and I'm shocked that this would happen within MONTHS being outside of warranty. Mechanic said truck not safe to drive and approx $1200 CAD to fix and unsure how long for parts to come in. Icing on the cake was ANOTHER door latch recall.... add it to the 43 other recalls on the vehicle that have no fix yet! *insert eyeroll* I'm angry about the door latch issues and block heater that was disconnected a month after we got the truck and is still not fixable!!!

Rusted transmission lines
I have a 2016 F150 Supercrew Lariat with 50000 km. I had the exact same problem as I was having severe shifting issues. The cause was I was low on transmission fluid that had been leaking out for quite some time. The transmission lines were completely rotten. I was not impressed! Ford did not cover under warranty even though I was well within the 5 year 60000 km basic coverage. The repair ended up costing me $700. So yes, you’re not alone out there and I’m sure there are more. Ford should anti up and fix this problem and reimburse my hard earned dollars.

Wow...thanks for the heads up guys! I will definitely make sure to blast the lines and cooler when spraying Fluid Film this year...
Never even thought about those things being vulnerable.
The salt application in my area is so aggressive trucks only last 10-15 years before they break in half...
