Default 200+ for a backup key?

Just got a 2017 Ford F150 4x4 xlt sport and love it. However it came with only 1 key and no owners manual so we don't know the code for keyless entry. Dealer wants 160 to cut key and another 60 to program it. Any place or way to get a better price on key or re program keyless entry with one key?

Curious why you only received one key with the truck, as all new vehicles come with 2 working keys. 2 keys are required to program a third operational key. Maybe go back to selling dealer and reconvene on why they only gave you one key?

Try a locksmith that specializes in auto stuff. I didn’t have to get a fob programmed as I had 2 keys, but wanted a 3rd and 1 of the 2 existing keys clearly wasn’t original as the blade (push button start) didn’t work in any of the locks and was different cut than the other. Apparently the normal cheap key sources like hardware stores etc won’t/can’t cut those type keys, and of course dealer wanted way too much. Did some digging around on the net and found a locksmith that is apparently popular with all the small used car lots in the area, and got a couple new blades matched up to the good one and cut for about $25, blanks included.

Next time insist on 2 keys when you buy.

Dealer, or a locksmith, can program a 2nd key. Make sure locksmith doesn't simply clone the key.

Code can be easily obtained in less than a minute by the dealer.

Many posts on keys bought on eBay, and programmed by dealer or locksmith. Some have used FORScan to program keys, unsure what years that works on.

Worked on my 2011 with ForScan, but many had issues. That was a while ago, I assume it should work on new ones too.

That's no reason. I have never bought a used car with only 1 key and never will. I'm 58 and have owned more than my share of used cars and only 1 new car.

Just be glad it wasn't a fob for the keyless push button start.

If you bought from a dealer, go to the dealer, tell them they need to change everything. 2 NEW keys and new ignition. For all you know, the previous owner claimed they "lost it" but now they have a key to your truck...

If this was a personal sale, it's even worse and they now also have your address from the ownership exchange paperwork. I realize that may be a little paranoid, but personally I wouldn't accept a vehicle with only one key...

LOL no reason? people lose keys all the time, my buddy lost one key to my 6 month old ram when i lent it to him. I know we all have our own ways of buying things but i would have no hesitation buying a used vehicle with only key if the price was right and its the vehicle i wanted. Were talking about a $100-$300 item on average( i know some keys are way more) so if i didnt get a smoking deal deal on the vehicle(which would make no sense why id buy it) i would just get them to deduct that cost in the price.
