Default 2.7EB Exhaust - We're Going To Figure It Out

I wanted to start this thread for the 2.7L EcoBoost owners so that we can come up with a decent aftermarket exhaust to make our cars louder, but still sound good.

Most of the options I have seen or heard so far (very few) sounded pretty ricey and not very good. I typically like to make my own exhaust instead of buying a plug and play kit (cheaper and can custom tailor the sound to my preference).

So far, the best plug and play exhaust options I've hear are the Borla offerings (they have a very high quality video here):

Among other options are the Corsa and MBRP, which I personally don't really like.

MBRP:

Corsa:

Homebrew solutions:

Resonator Delete:

Of all the solutions, the resonator delete would be by far the cheapest. It sounds okay, but I think it is a little bit too raspy and farty/poppy/ tin-can like for my taste.

Ideally, I would love to hear the 2.7L ecoboost with a muffler delete only. I think this will make the stock exhaust noticeable louder and help free it up and sound a bit more aggressive/throaty without too much of the tin can and pops/farts of the exhaust.

Additionally, I would also think about a Y-Pipe for dual exhaust perhaps coupled with an X-pipe for more aggressive sound, but haven't seen these options.

Hopefully we can find people who may have already done this and consolidate it here. Otherwise, I might just go for it and try it myself.

I'm interested in this as well. And i'd like to add that as a 2.7 owner i know it will never sound like a V8, i get it. If we wanted it to sound like a V8, we should have bought V8. I'm just interested in something to make it more noticeable and maybe add a few ponies or drop few pounds, that's all. thanks to the OP for starting (re-starting?) this thread.

I love how quiet it is. It catches people off guard when I accelerate. Loud trucks and cars with fart cans are just annoying. A lawn mower or a 1992 Ford Tempo with a missing muffler is just as loud but that doesn't impress me either. I'm more impressed with a luxury car that silently blows the doors off of everyone else as it quitely flies down the road. I lived in Germany for several years and saw many of these flying down the autobahn. Rarely did I hear any roaring past over my radio.

I'm equally annoyed by cars that pop and backfire, or trucks that blow clouds of black soot. Think it's cool that your engine is out of tune or something? *facepalm*

Guys I'm sorry, these engines just do not sound very good. No combination of pipes and packing/baffles is going to change that. The only possible outcome is to make the bad sound louder.

Why would anyone spend money to make the bad sound louder? No one outside of your vehicle wants to hear that noise. Save your money and spare the innocent public. Or buy an engine that sounds good and make it louder if you must...

But this here ^? This is just a waste of money and noise pollution. The same is true for the 3.5 ecoboost. And every other v6 ever installed in a pickup.

I have to agree with you. V6's for the most part do not sound good. I had a Fiero that had kind of a Ferrari like sound to it and that was fine for that car, but I don't want to hear it on a truck. I would add exhaust to the truck to get increases in HP and TQ, but not for sound. It's actually nice that the thing is so quiet in light of how they actually sound.

This X1000

I love how quiet my truck with the 2.7 and stock exhaust. Putting aftermarket exhaust on a V6 truck just doesn't sound good IMHO.

Well for what it's worth I just had a friend install a single inlet dual outlet magna flow on my 2.7 and we split the pipes one behind each tire.

It makes hardly any sound whatsoever we will go back soon and cut the resonator out to see what happens???

The tone is very low and deep there's no raspiness sound whatsoever if it were just a little bit louder I would be very happy.

I want to dispel the notion that V6 engines can't sound good. If a V6 engine is tuned right and has the right exhaust modifications, it can sound great.

Here is a clip of my C300 (V6) with a custom exhaust that I pieced together:

You can't tell me that doesn't sound great. Sure, it will never have the grunt and sound of a V8, but if you accept that and work on what makes V6 engines great and work on emphasizing that sound, you can still get a great result.

Here is another car I used to have where I even took a more un-conventional method and it worked out great. This was a C250 (turbo 4 cylinder) car which everyone assured me would always sound like crap and never be good. I did some very unconventional things with the exhaust, but I think it sounds great as a 4 cylinder and definitely nothing too raspy or ricey.

All I'm trying to do here is try to figure out a combination that will bring out the best in my F150's exhaust and enhance it to the best of it's abilities. I don't want it to sound like a V8 or diesel, but just sound a bit louder and more refined to make every day driving more enjoyable. I'm hoping that in a month or two I will be able to upload a clip that might have you change your mind.

The c300 actually does sound pretty good, at least free revving high in the rpm band. I'm not sure I would like it lugging around under 2k rpms, where the ecoboost truck engines live.

But I would actually be impressed if you could get an ecoboost to sound that way. I wouldn't want it on my truck, but at least it wouldn't sound gross.

I don't want to make my truck louder. So glad to be done with the truck as muscle car noise.
