2.7 is pretty quick
If you get the 2.7 equipped with 3.73 gears like I did, then it's a much more even 1/4 mile race vs the 3.5 in stock trim, but the 2.7 will have the lead for a good while until the 3.5 comes on by. Now with a tune on both trucks, the 3.5 hands down wins every time. Most likely the 2.7 rental truck you were in had either 3.31 or 3.55 rear.

Although I have to wonder what engine the Silverado had that it was beaten by the Colorado

It may not be as far off as I thought but the 2.7 sure feels very quick. Mine and the rental both have 3.55 gears. I would love to see a side by side drag. I really really like the 2.7 and sure would have got it if it was offered in the Patinum. Hmmmmm
I was more than surprised at the "get-up-and-go" that my 2.7 has. Even got it to break the rear end free with the traction control off. The wife's 2012 Expedition has twice the displacement (5.4) and still isn't as fast as this thing is. Holy Smokes!
I ran my 2015 F-150 XLT Super Cab 4X4 2.7L Eco Boost,3.55 gears and 20" Wheels at the track last Sunday truck is bone stock.Only made 2 runs 14.81@92.93 mph and a 14.56@93.07 mph.The 14.56 was faster then the 11 and 13 Super Cab 4X4's i had with the 3.5L Eco Boost in them.I know one guy on here said he ran a 14.08 bone stock with a 2015 Super Cab 4X4 with the 3.5L Eco Boost in it.
The 5.4 was slooowwww. I traded in my 07 scab 4x4 with 3.55s. I think the 5.0 is the slowest of the three being stock but still runs 14.8 .
