I thought the Eco's lost their oomph in the higher RPM's whereas the 5.0 keeps pulling? That's what I've read and seen on graphs here anyway.

Moronic thread? Test drives come with having to fight off sales people with sticks afterwards if you're not ready to purchase right away. Figured asking a question like this on a forum designed for these kind of inquiry's would be pretty standard fare. Lol, sorry if I made you pull your beloved judgement card, TEX.

last5oh, I don't know about Ecoboost losing any power. Whew, mine sure doesn't! That thing'll be going WAY too fast for me in a New York City second. And keep on going...

Don't worry about old TEX. He's okay, just probably needs a good cup of coffee. I'm buying, TEX. Hey, you gotta love TEXAS, a place that must be said and written in all CAPITALS.

The goobers will finally understand that they are goobers when you pass them.

2.7 - start passing at 80 mph and you will have more power than you know what to do with.

I am 65 years old and I still like to wind up the turbo from time to time. I traded in my 2012 FX 5.0 for the 2015 Lariat 2.7. I miss the sound of my 5.0 but but really like the power of my 2.7 and the gas mileage increase is great too.

See Below...the 3.5 isn't walking past the 5.0 at highway speeds, not likely that the 2.7 does either...

50-70 in 6th, the 5.0 is just as quick as the 3.5EB.

70-90 probably goes to the 5.0 since more speed means more rpm and that is where the 5.0 likes to live. 50-70 is in the wheelhouse of the ecoboost...and it still isn't faster.

Actually, look at the 0-60 and 0-100 times. from 60-100 is 10.2s for the 5.0 and 10.4s for the 3.5 EB...at some point, the 5.0 does start closing...

We keep forgetting HOW and WHERE each engine makes power. The 5.0 has plenty of power to pass. BUT, it will shift down 1, 2 or 3 gears to match an ecoboost acceleration that may not even need to kick down to access that power. Leaving the illusion of it being faster. Whereas the 5.0 revving up sound fast no matter what and could give the illusion it is screaming along. So do the same test in top gear and the results will chow a clear advantage to one power plant.

Of course with a simple tune, any of those numbers you have are irrelevant. I have had the heaviest model of a tuned eco up to 125+ and it was pulling hard (in mexico) and can tell you that at hwy speeds where tires wouldn't be blown off due to lack of traction would absolutely leave most vehicles behind until well over 100 mph where aerodynamics are a huge factor.

Regardless, the 5.0 at higher rpms makes very good power and has more than enough power to be fun and fast.

Plenty of two-lane passing power in my 2.7! Even with 'sport' mode turned off!
