Default '15 Sync update

Logged into Ford's site and it tells me there is an update for Sync. (Original Sync on a 4" screen). Downloaded the file, extract to USB, and go out to the truck. Start the install...20 min later, it failed. Tried again, failed. My version doesn't show in the System Info screen but there is a line that shows a bunch of letters/numbers ending with 5.8. The Sync update is 5.9.

Am I missing something?

There are well explained instructions including the required formatting of the stick (FAT32), unpacking the files on the computer and transferring them to the stick, etc. Existing threads and the Ford site explain the process.

Try a different brand USB drive too. When I updated mine it kept failing. Brought it to the dealer and they couldn't get it either. Tried a different USB drive and it worked.

Hi acs259,

denimtouch & 2slow05 asked some great questions. The USB must be formatted to FAT32, only contain the update, and be at least 2 GB. Is this the case?

It's a USB3.0 32GB clean drive formatted to Fat32. I loaded the files to my PC and extracted them to the drive.

I re-formatted and tried using 7-zip to extract the files as suggested by denimtouch with the same result.

Default You can't extract the files directly to the USB

You can't extract the files directly to the USB. You need to extract them to an empty folder first, then copy the files from the folder to the USB. The extract directly to the USB will cause a problem.

Hey there, acs259!

Please try a master reset: http://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-t...0&sync=sync1_1

Once the reset is complete, try the update again. If it still fails, please shoot us a PM with the exact error message you receive and the files that show in the SyncMyRide folder.
