I hear good things about Krylon Fusion, for painting plastic, but never used it myself. I do like Krylon paint the best though out of the rattle can brands. Rustoleum seemed to dry soft to me. Duplicolor seems pretty good too.

More important than the type of paint you choose for the longevity of the paint job is your prep work. The brand you use, is important, but even the best brand will peel off if you do not prep your toolbox and running boards well, especially your tool box. Just an FYI from someone how has had to repaint a diamond plated tool box from lack of prep.

Im gonna wash the whole box with simple green to get it clean and and degreased. Then im gonna wire brush the whole thing and rewash. Prime and paint. I bought self etching primer (rustoleum) and oil base paint(rustoleum). Is there anything wrong with this way or should i do something else in the prep work? Painting isnt my thing or atleast i havent had good luck at it yet. I am not a very patient person when it comes to painting. Thanks
