Default Ever hear this?

Took my 2008 F150 (5.4 engine) in for service today. I get the local Ford dealer to change the oil and perfrommthe multi-point inspectiosn every 3000 to 5000 miles. rotate tires check fluid level and so forth. Well today the guy tells me since you're at 30,000 miles we should checks some stuff.
  1. change air filter - Nope has a CAI
  2. change oil and filter - yes
  3. multipoint inspection - yup
  4. fuel filter - yes as long as its called for - yes
  5. rotate tires, inspect brakes - the normal stuff
Here's one of the two biggies -
at 30,000 miles you should flush the transmission and change the filters. check it all out. Ok sounds like good avice to me ($190). We should check the fuel system as well. We'll call you with a proposed list and cost. Oh boy here we go right.
Get the call. they "rocommend" a fuel injector flush service at a mere $200. I ask if that is scheduled service or factory recommended. He say no its something we recommend at 30k miles.

So my questions are -
  1. Is it necessary and worth doing the transmission job. My inital thoughts are yes but was looking for opinions
  2. Has anyone ever had the fule inhjector flush offered and is it necessary?
I have been going back to ford for all my service stuff and keep track of it on thier website (Ford Owner). I have been relatively happy witht hier service but this seemed a littel over the top. Go in for a $50 oil change and service inspection and get hit up for $500 plus in "recommended" services.

Any input would be appreciated

Look in your owners manual. It will tell you the factory recommended. Other then that they are trying to make some extra money due to the declined economy, can't blame them.

Proper transmission maintenance interval is in the book but a flush and new filter won't hurt even if it's below service time. Injectors don't usually need cleaning and with only 30k there shouldn't be any problems.

Thanks for the replies. I did check my manual. It recommends the transmission work however I could not find anything on the fuel system. It seemed odd but I wasn't sure. I can beleive they were looking to generate work and I can't blame them either. I really just never heard of a fuel system flush and was asking to see if anyone else had. they did change the fuel filter and completed the other normal stuff.

I have a "tap" nosie from the engine. Had it checked 3 times. all 3 checks they tell me it is injector noise and not a valve tap. Anyone else have that? They actually placed a srewdriver on the fuel rail for me to listen thru and then on the valve cover. Noise is from fuel rail but again odd to me. I made sure they documented it in my maintenance files jsut incase .

I am happy with the tranny service. I'm getting ready to put in an Edge EVO. also contemplating re-gearing to 4.56. I have 33"x13.5 tires on 18" XD monster rims. I want to up my towing performance and save wear on the drive train. Am I on the right track with gears and a tuner?

Been reading thru a lot of posts and trying to gauge the mods I'd like to do. this forum is awesome. Lots of good info.

thanks for taking the time to read thru this and offer input.

My dealer serviced my tranny at 30k...cost $129 plus tax. I put Lucas fuel injector in a tank of gas to clean my injectors...does anybody know why we need to replace the brake fluid ?? Can't figure that one out ??

it really depends on how you use your truck,if you do a lot of towing and hauling a trans flush at 30k would be ok,but if you use it like a car for a daily driver i would wait till it hit 60k,you can allways check the color of the trans fluid yourself if its has a good redish color to it your fine if it starts turning brown its time for a change, hey dont get me wrong i work for a large ford dealership i know how these service menus are set up most are set up right but some are set up just to make money after 40 years at a dealership ive seen just about everything that can be thrown at a customer, but mostly any maintinace is good you just need to some common since.

Brake fluid needs to be replaced because brake fluid gathers moisture, both because the system is vented and because all the rubber boots are permeable to moisture. The more moisture your fluid gathers, the less effective it is, and the lower the boiling temp. Not really necessary very often but every couple years could save you big in the long run.

X2

my dealer said brake fluid is good to be changed at about the 100,000 mile mark. I had it done with my 100,000 mile service

do the tranny flush... never hurts for an auto.
fuel system... SEAFOAM
15 dollar miracle in a bottle. except this is the only one that actually works thats why generic stores dont carry it. look it up online... check out youtube. guarenteed to not harm any kinda motor. Honestly I would never put anything but proper fluids and seafoam in my vehicles.
