Engine oil!
Im sure this question has been posted a million times...
But
What is the best oil to run in older engines???
Right now i run Castrol gtx high mileage.
What do yall think about synthetic oils in older engines.
whats the best oil filter?
what do yall think about the new royal purple oil filter?
whats yalls take on lucas?
Is it like the synthetic oils? (Once you use it -you shoulden stop using it?)
(My truck has a rear-main leak and I cant always afford to add lucas)
my truck is a 1993 ford f150 with the 5.0 e40d trans.
lets talk trans.
How do yall feel about lucas tran oil?
I maybe the only one who noticed this but ford states (On the dipstick) DO NOT USE ANY ADDITIVES
I had a 2000 ford explorer and added some lucas to it and about 3mths later the tran woulden act right when cold. But i add the lucas bc it was acting up...
ONLY THE BEST FOR MY BABY- I pray the wife doesn't ever find this post!

Thanks guys

I use GTX high mileage with a Lucas additive right now in my 94 F150...and am happy
in my E4OD trans I have Swepco 210 Race Oil and it works wonders! I also use swepco in my rear diff with a mixture of Auburn oil additive and Equa-Torque Diff Friction Modifier...SO NICE
thin like trans fluid but better protection in a wider range of temps.
I like Royal Purple too, but I don't run it b/c of high miles and cost, bottom line. If I completely rebuilt my 5.8L I'd like to run Royal at all times in the motor and cooling system.

I think castrol makes the finest conventional oil on the market. I've used it in everything I've owned and it seems to disappear the least.
I find Lucas injector cleaner to be the most effective, but I haven't tried their oils.

In an older engine that may be more prone to leaking, a mechanic friend of mine has stated that he recommends a synthetic blend for the following reasons:
Synthetic oil is more uniform at the molecular level, therefore, better
-BUT-
Synthetic oil is runnier and runs right out of a leaky engine.
He recommended synthetic blend for being a little thicker than full synthetic , but higher in quality than standard. I use Valvoline because my Ford dealer uses Valvoline. I trust the dealer I go to now and personally feel that if it's what Ford says is ideal, that's what I'll run.
