Default Engine about to seize

sigh.... hi, i bought a 1999 f150 with a 5.4 v8 a few months ago and being new to me, i assumed i did not need to check the oil regularly, turns out i was very wrong, i took my truck to the shop cause the engine was making loud ticking noieses and i know enogh about enginges that that sounds like a bent cam shaft, so anyway, the report from the macanic is that the engine was servearely damaged form lack of oil and will seize very soon. ive been driveing it with the noise for about two months now. so my question is, how long do i have till seizure? and after that happens, do i replace the engine with a 1999 5.4? could i use a new 5.0? or mabey the supercharged lightning 5.4? i need advice on how long my engine will last and what should i put in next. thanks

Overhaul the one you have before it blows.

I'd go ahead and swap before it seizes. Most places that sell used or new engines won't take cores that you can't rotate so you lose a few hundred right there.

No such thing as a "quick" overhaul.

Lol didn't mean to offend. Just don't want to give the guy hope that he can overhaul his engine over the weekend and a couple beers. Cheaper route would be throw in a used motor and that can be done over the weekend if you have the right tools.

I have to ask. What does a bent camshaft sound like. I have seen flat lobes, broken camshafts, never a bent one.

BTW, Change the oil, add slick fifty and see whst it sounds like. Go to the junk yard if it's shot. IMHO.

I have never seen a camshaft that could be bent, they are very hard and brittle steel and will break before bending. As an aside what on earth would lead you to believe it wasn't prudent to check the oil on a truck that old that you had just bought?
