4.2L reliability

-the truck was a bank repo, out of state that was represented as running condition. The stock oil pressure guage reads the same from 3psi to 100 psi. No idiot lights go off until it drops below 3 psi. I know this because I installed a manual guage teed in. It took 30-35 minutes for the motor to get heat soaked enough for the stock gauge to hit zero and the idiot light to go off. The guy I sent to test drive it didn't drive it for long enough for this to happen. It was a $6500 truck for $2000, which was represented as being cheap because it was keyed by the repoee, I don't think you can call me idiot for jumping on it, I was involved in auto body then. I didn't think the bank would scam me.

-and how was I supposed to know Jasper wasn't a reputable company with no previous experience, I just did what I thought was best at the time. I was a 17 y.o. in high school with no support, financing and swapping my own motors.
-It's easy to critical when you don't have the facts and have no idea what you are talking about.

...as for the other part...in a previous post you state
"I am very mechanically inclined ... I grew up through my late teen years building high performance motocross motors (not bolt ons, real internal custom motor and chassis work), I've swapped my 4.2 and several other motors, I worked as a hired hand in college operating and maintaining large tractors, combines and equipment, I've got a mechanical engineering degree from Purdue with a minor in fluid power, I have designed-prototyped-implemented-patented-manufactured and sold an auxilary high flow hydraulic system for use on posi-track RC-60's, spent several years as a production engineer for our families stump grinder company"
You're contradicting yourself now......
-Aren't you the middle age Canadian cowboy that was scared to change his own starter because it might be too complex of a job? If you can't change a starter, don't bother trying to argue with me about mechanical things, you will lose
-on that note, if you can't find your starter, how can you be a motor expert? Sounds like you just take your rig to midas....

I never attacked you personally....you came onto a 6 cyl forum to bash them. You've repeatedly denied that, but your first post is still there in case you've forgotten what you posted.
...and don't try to argue anything mechanical with you cause I'll lose.
Are you in your right mind?
Look at your record buddy. My trucks have never seen a garage....
Perhaps that's the problem. Maybe you should let someone else work on your truck Midas man.

If you insist......
"and how was I supposed to know Jasper wasn't a reputable company with no previous experience, I just did what I thought was best at the time. I was a 17 y.o. in high school with no support, financing and swapping my own motors"

are you a rocket scientist or are you not.????
&... according to your own logs at least one of the Jasper engine's was done by GT Auto service..In other posts, you claim to have swapped them yourself.
In one post all your good memories are in this truck, in another it's your greatest source of grief... make up your mind
Sounds contradicting to me
I've looked at your logs and looks mostly like regular maintenace to me.
I can not see where you've replace every part of the suspension and drive train as you previously stated.
AS for the reconfigured 5.4......have you been drinking?
Where are you getting your facts? The 4.2 was not derived from any 8 cylinder engine. You really need to learn to do your research.
Agreed
More stupidity!
Really, do I have to go on, ....and how does the fact that the 300 was a reliable engine prove that my 4.2 is a pos as you call it.
The rest of your last post is just nonsense, rambles on and makes no sense, but then you haven't made much sense since you've started posting. Time to put the pipe down for awhile...don't you think?

Just because you trade trucks before they need any maintenance, and thus "they have never seen a garage" doesn't make you more handy, it makes you more wealthy. I highly doubt that you have driven any Ford truck past 200k without ever working on it at all, and if you have, I can guarantee it wasn't a 4.2

I'm not trying to discredit anything....
You've had a bad experience...that is obvious.
I'm really sorry that you've had such a bad experience.....truly!
However, you came on to a 6cyl thread with your handle "crummy 4.2" and make the statement that the 4.2 is either going to be underpowered and blow up or be underpowered and not blow up....you remember the rest!
Your post was not an account of your experience with this engine. It was a general statement that this engine is a worthless piece of junk.
In another thread you state you can't pull an aluminum boat over 55?
Does that sound like the same engine that the rest of us have.
A reasonably intelligent person can see that you have had bad luck and your current engine is no where near the power it should be putting out.
You state here that your original engine blew due to low oil pressure, but in another thread, you say it was leaking coolant into the block and that is what caused the engine failure.
So again, bought a truck with a bad engine...or at least and engine destined for failure. After that, it sounds like your problems are related to bad jasper build and crooked mechanics....according to you in another thread.
If you ask me...you should be pissed with the person who sold you the truck, with jasper for building bad engines, maybe even your dad for the great look over.....
But stop saying that the engine is crappy and underpowered when you've never even driven one that ran properly.
Do you think that we're all delusional and you're the only one that know that truth about the 4.2???
Bottom line is your not happy with your truck....I agree.
why are you afraid that your engine will hydrolock? I thougt your concern was blowing intake gaskets when you wind it out to a whopping 3600 rpm to get max torque.
Are you leaking coolant into your cylinders?
If you have bad gaskets, change them.
You want to dissuade people from getting a 4.2 ....why?
...because someone sold you a truck with a bad gasket?
Because you decided to put in a Jasper that was bad?
Again, you have had a lot of bad luck with that particular truck, but that is not due to engine design, just poor choices on your part.
as for the personal attacks............well, you gonna have to try a little harder to offend me. Spouting off random crap about someone you know nothing about only makes you look stupid, not me.....but feel free.

My buddy once drove his truck through deep water and hydrolocked his engine. I feel bad now, because i told him it was his own fault and now i find out that is was just bad engine design.
