What Now?
I recently got a 1993 F150 XLT with 114K miles. It looks good and drives nice but it needed lots -o- work th get it thru MD inspection. Lots of $$ later the brakes are great but today I backed up in my driveway and then tried to move the shift leaver to drive and it went "snap" and all gear changing stopped there. I removed what I could and it looks like something if the steering collumn broke loose. Where can I get a diagram of this assembly?
Thanks

Try LMC truck, they have a break down of the column. If not, a Haynes book should have it. But first isolate the problem, does the linkage to the trans move? Does the arm at the end of the steering shaft move? is there any stiffness to the shifter? You might want to pull the steering wheel and see what is going on. They are not that hard to do.
My haynes book does not say much. The linkage at the trans does not move but the arm at the end of the steering shaft barely moves. I think the problem is between where the shift leaver attaches and the arm at the end of the steering shaft. I have never disassembled a steering column before and am reluctant to try without guidence (book or person)

I did some more looking this morning and found what is broken. It looks like a cast metal part that connects the shift leaver to the arm that moves the trans cable.
It is Fractured? Unless this truck was in a wreck I'm not sure how this could happen.
How do I remove the steering wheel?
How do I remove the little winged part that the key goes in? (key is still in)

Thanks
Francis

Part #15 called a "shift tube" looks like the broken part.
Can I replace it without removing the steering collumn?
Thanks

Steering wheel you need a puller, the ignition lock you need a thin phillips screw driver, turn key as to start but stop before you start, there is a small hole in the bottom of plastic trim, through that hole is the pin that holds the cyl in, push the pin and the cyl will come out, you might be able to fix without pulling the column, or just a suggestion it might be easier o find a new column and just put that in.
Dirtcrew51m,
The ignition cyl came out just like you said. I was able to remove the shift tube assy and the shift plunger. There are four nuts that when removed will allow me to replace these parts unless there is some snag awaiting me when I remove them and try to lower the steering collomn to a point where I can reinstall the new parts.
Anything for me to watch out for?

Thanks
Francis

I removed the four nuts, lowered the steering collumn down to my knee, replaced the shift tube (the new one is reinforced where the old one broke) and shift plunger. Put it back together and it's fixed!
