It's the smog pump control valve.

I see... from there, in which direction do I need to look to find the knock sensor?

It had nothing to do with the knock sensor.

I know they're not connected... I'm just trying to use it as a landmark, I'm under the impression that the knock sensor is located somewhere in that area

I have some more pics of the so-called smog pump control valve, this time from the other side of the truck:



the problem is the dark colored hose in the lower right of the pic. It doesn't seem to connect to anything, and there's a suspicious looking opening near the end. Could these two have become disconnected? closeup of the end of the hose:

I think you're right - that should be connected. Probably why you're getting a thermactor code...

fair enough, now how do I reconnect it? is there a part broken there or just something to screw back in or something. This looks fun, it was hard enough just getting a clear photo of it

Yeah, it should be fun. On the bright side, you might bust your knuckle on that knock sensor you've been searching for by the time you get that thing reconnected.
