A trans temp sensor is a great idea, especially if towing/hauling a lot! Check out this Temp chart: http://fordfuelinjection.com/files/e...rans_temps.gif

.......and some people still think the world is flat! Go Synthetic & dont forget to drain the torque converter too. Toss in a can of Transtune & run it for a while just prior to changing. It will restore full flow to the cooling coils also. Don't get the draining fluid on you, it smells like death X2 & is carcinogenic. How can continuing to run degraded fluid w/ contaminants & metallic debris, be good for it? Timely Fluid change is preemptive damage control. Especially w/ Synthetic. There's a reason tranny temps increase as the fluid degrades.

REALLY DUMB QUESTION... how do i drain the TQ converter? and my transfluid is full... adding a bottle of trans tune will be "Overfilling" the trans and thats bad according to the dipstick (insert sarcasm here), and i assume synthetic transfluid is a good thing on a "older" trans. i know synthetic oil is really bad in a older motor so not sure if its the same concept in a older trans too?

I don't think 16oz. of light viscosity is going to stress it, but I've used a clear tubing down the dipstick tube, long enough to reach below the level of the tranny to siphon excess. On my truck, there's an inspection plate in front of the torque converter. Remove the plate & rotate the converter till you see a plug. Remove the plug. If Synthetic is bad in older engines, I guess the world "is" flat!

Ya got me on that one. If not, I guess you'll have to pressure method. (have it done) Otherwise, you leave a crapload of nasty fluid in the converter, & the new fluid begins to degrade immediately & rapidly. Not that familiar with that method, because all my vehicles have had drain plugs. Anybody?

UGH! Why does the rumor mill continue to spew this aweful lie!?!?!? I literally just switched to Royal Purple 10w-30 with Lucas Oil Stabilizer and a K&N oil filter in my 94' 5.0L with 144,553 miles. The motor is quieter, runs smoother starts better and DOESN'T LEAK A DROP!

How is it that you "know" synthetic oil is bad in an older motor?

If you believe that than don't listen to a word Ymeski is saying, you'll surely blow your transmission up.

C'mon! Synthetic fluids are BETTER how could they be bad for ANY engine, transmission or gear box?!?! The logic doesn't make sense!

Ymeski's knee is most likely throbbing with pain at the moment so I digress....

Do the transtune like Y said and replace that old crappy trans fluid with a quality synthetic and replace 2 quarts with Lucas Trans Fix, you'll be all set for another 60k miles....
