Variable speed sensor.

Can anyone here tell me what role the VSS plays in the function of engine control? I am aware of the auxiliary roles such as speedometer, cruise control and ALB. I am not concerned with them. I am only concerned with what role it plays in actual engine operation such as fuel control or timing. I am also aware of the PSOM so there is no need to post about it.
Please, no guesses or hope this helps. I need accurate info from someone who knows.

I'm Still Down Home
The Vehicle Speed Sensor measures transmission/transaxle output or wheel speed. The ECM then uses this information to modify engine functions such as ignition timing, AF ratio, Transmission shift points, and to initiate diagnostic routines.

I have posted here before and included things that were checked, double checked and triple checked or replace then check trying to find a problem. The replies almost always come back telling me the things that I checked are what is wrong even to the extent of telling me my engine is worn out when the compression is 165 lbs right down the line. Or I don't get any engine codes and people tell me that there has to be a code that I am missing or I don't know how to read a code reader. These things are rude. I only ask that people don't tell me that things I have checked and know are not the problem are the problem. Don't tell me my engine is worn out when it is not.
I came here for information and all I get is back talk and smart mouths.
Good bye.

I believe you are saying that the VSS is used more extensively than just during deceleration?
The intent of my OP was to get useful info only but I keep getting people who really don't know they just want to get into the thread for whatever reason and I wanted, hopefully, to weed them out. At least they showed up with posts that are easily interpreted and dismissed.
