To start off I have no knowledge on automatic transmission since ive owned manuals, I had to replace a rear main seal yesterday, after accomplishing that I put the transmission back on and filled it back up. Upon driving down the road it slipped out of gear with no noise and wouldn't accelerate. I pulled off and noticed it wouldn't move in drive or reverse, just rev up. Came back the next morning and check the fluids. Everything was right
noticed I could push the truck in gear and transmission fluid wasnt flowing through the cooling lines, transmission and it's oil remain cold when running. Any ideas? 1994 f150 xlt 4wd.
Sounds like the torque converter is not engaging the pump in the trans.
Did the trans bolt right up, or did you have to pull it together with the bolts?
Sounds like the converter wasn't seated into the pump all the way.
i think you are going to be pulling it out again.....
I'm thinking the ears on the pump or the convertor got broken.
No fluid movement means no pump turning.
It should just line up on the dowel pins and bolt together.
When you put the converter into the trans you need to spin it a few times to get it to drop all the way in and engage the pump.
Im guessing the converter wasn't all the way in and bolting it together pinched it into the pump.
I did a quick look last night and noticed the transmission backed it's self out a bit to where the point where some of the bolts were so loose and I could turn them with my hand. Would this be a possibility that the spline isn't meeting up into the tc right? It's about a quarter of a inch of a gap on both sides. Engine on the left and transmission on the right. Bolt is loose enough to loosen with my fingers.
the other side
Well i think you pinched the converter .... when you ran the truck it wiped out (destroyed) the ears on either the pump or the converter....
once the ears sheared off you now have the room to bolt it together all the way.
Is that a crack in the last pic ? or just a casting line ?
Casting lines. I'm beyond confused, went home and retightened the bolts, and added a bit of fluid. Just trying everything I can do and it went into reverse and moved and went in any gear and drove. Turned off the truck and back on and it's like that never happened, cannot even to replicate it moving anymorem

So is it working now or not? Not too unusual to take a bit to work the air out of a drained transmission. when you check the fluid level you are doing it with it running, right? There is a tremendous difference when the converter is pumped full and when it has drained back.
