Default Transmission issues...

While working on changing gears and lifting I noticed 2 things with my tranny. I just had it rebuilt about a year ago. Its an E4OD in a 1991 F150.

Issue 1: The pan gets so hot you cant even touch it. Ive never noticed this before.

Issue 2: Their is a ticking noise coming from it. Best way to describe the noise is if you have ever had a cracked manifold, its abou the same sound but Im 100% its coming from the tranny.

Any ideas? Thanks

Every automatic I've ever had rebuilt didn't last for more than a year. It seems nobody knows how to rebuild them right. I've had much better luck with junkyard trannys.

Anyways, the pan would get pretty hot, and the ticking is it cooling off unless it does it when it is running.

It does it when its running even in park. Would an external transmission cooler help?

A cooler will help. I'm not sure what the ticking is since it does it while running. I'd probably take off the torque converter cover and see if it still does it. They often get bent and hit the flywheel.
