now that thats out of the way, would it be worth it to add an external transmission filter?
when im changing the filter is there anything to add into the transmission before to help clean it?
is there a stronger magnet for the drain pan? and finally are their any suggested changes i should do while im working on it? ( deeper pan, pan with drain plug) anything?

 

external filter? nah

pre-cleaner? dont think so, never heard of one if there is.

stronger magnet? they are available if you are so inclined, not worth it IMO.

pan? at minimum i would add a universal drain plug. $5 at the parts store. If you can pony up the $200 for a deep B&M pan with plug, i would do that for sure. Extra capacity and cooling capability on an AT is always a good thing

 

that makes me want the external filter, fuild stays cooler and the system holds more. if i went deep pan id need something to protect it. and i really dont have a reason for the stronger magnet just like the safety factor

 

I've seen kits that add an external filter like a motor oil filter that you can change more regularly. All those sound like good upgrades. All depends on how much you want to spend.

 

the kit ive heard is on summit racing, gonna go look it up now. read about it on fullsizebronco and the extra length of pipe and external filter dropped internal temp by up to 20 degrees

 

I have built and ran 3 ford automatics that cost me 4,000-5,000 bucks a piece (upgraded) in different trucks over the years...so keeping them in top condition and lasting as long as possible is important!
With the e4od the best advice I can give you is keep it cool! Spend your money on a aftermarket cooler to replace or run with your stock cooler.

Also the diesel e4od Stock pans have a drain plug and a larger magnet. So it's a good upgrade if you can find one at a wreckers. Not sure what they are new.

When you service the trans make sure to drain the torque converter and add a bottle of Lucas. I have done tests with and without Lucas and the trans runs cooler with a bottle in the fluid.

Not sure if you need all this information...but I'm sure It will help someone.

 

This is makin me want to sevice mine because it the only thing i dont want to replace haha. I wana replace the 5.0 with the 5.8 and i wana regear. So saving the tranny would be nice haha

No. Use lucas transmission additive. It says stop slip on the bottle but my transmission builder said its good for any transmission! New or old.
Basically turns your regular ATF into the best possible fluid for your trans.

The sea foam is made to add and then service to clean your trans...Lucas is made to run. New or old fluid.
