Default Tires and Wheels

I'm planning on getting some new tires and wheels. I have 235/75r15 on stock 15x7.5 wheels right now. I want to get 31's and just wondering what size wheel would be best. 15x10, 15x8 or 15x7. Any suggestions?

If you're getting 31x10.50 tires, suggest that 15x10 will be a tad too wide and make the tire look puffy, the 15x8 would be good, and the 15x7 will work fine but may tend toward making the sidewalls look sucked in a bit, IMO.

Suggest if you're buying locally - the shop should be willing to mount 'em up so you can decide for yourself.

I believe the rule of thumb is 3 inches wider than your wheels. So yea 15x8 or stock should be fine with a 31x10.5. If you buy new wheels, I'd go up a size to 16's.

I agree with going with the 16's if you go after new wheels. The selection of tires goes way up. Now running 265/75/16 tires. Won't go back to the 15's.

I've been looking for a close-up of the wheels and tires, but this is the best I can do for now. The wheels are stock Ford 16x8 I'm near sure (memory??). The tires are Yokohama Geolander AT-S.

What will increasing the size of the rim do to the performance of the truck? Computer?Gas mileage?Speedometer?

Typically a larger diameter wheel will increase the handling of the vehicle. 15 to 16 isn't going to be a huge difference but they also look better when going to larger tires because the wheel doesn't look so shrunk around the bigger rubber. That bigger rubber will also flex more and make handling less stable. You probably won't really notice it going up just an inch, but like Goatman said, you have more options for tires going to 16's.
