Default tire question?

i got a 93 f150 4.9l 5spd 4x4 with 31x10.5x15 bfg AT's and the tires are starting to do this /-\ does that mean a tie rod is going bad? when i got the tires 1 year ago i had an alignment done and my machanic said i needed something done where he has to pop the upper ball joint off and replace a shim or something that would cost $600 per side and i think i just needed the driverrs side done now i will probably have to do both. i have read you can do this yourself is it hard?

It's not a tie rod, most likely your camber is off. You don't have to pop out a ball joint at all. If you pull your wheel off, look at where the knuckle connects to the top of the I-Beam, there will be a bolt going horizontally through it, this bolt "locks" the camber adjustment cam in place. Any reputable alignment shop should know this and be able to do an alignment (for about $80) to fix the camber issue. The camber cams may cost a few bucks more but no more than $20.

The camber cam looks something like this:

600 per side? Wow, remind me never to go there! I got an alignment done on my old truck, $50 for 2 new camber bushings and $50 for the alignment.

If your tires are only doing it after you've backed into a parking spot, then that's notorious for the TTB suspensions on these trucks. If its doing it while your actually driving down the road, then your camber needs adjusted.

600 sounds like a lot, but I think you're remembering right. The dealer wanted about that much to do mine. They say because of all the labor but they can say whatever they want, I'm not paying it. I haven't bothered to change them yet.

Park somewhere without going in reverse and see if the tires are straight.

These pictures are examples of what happens when you park in reverse. The TTB suspension on these trucks are notorious for doing it. If I pull in forward somewhere, then my tires are straight as an arrow
