Default Time for a cam!

The time is finally here for me to upgrade the ole 351 and get a cam. The only problem is i don't know what all work it needs. Its at 153,000 miles, it doesn't use oil or anything but I've it needs a ton of work before it gets upgraded. First off does it need rebuilt? if so here's what I'm thinking so far: New valvesprings, pushrods, and everything on those online rebuild kits. (are the kits any good?) also what kind of cam is the best for a truck like mine (occasional driver, sometimes haul. uses 4x4 alot) i was thinking a comp cams towing or 4x4 cam. Can somebody more experienced give me some pointers? Possibly what make of cam and a price? If you can help i appreciate it a ton, ive been waiting forever to do this but im LOST thanks

Do you know whether or not your truck has a roller or flat tappet camshaft?

It's a 94, the first year for a hydraulic roller (99.9 percent sure) and its the 'lovely' obd1 fuel injection, sorry probably should have included that

I stole this from ford truck enthusiast. They were talking about a cam with speed density " Just get a Crane 444232 flat tappet or Comp 35-349-8 roller depending what the motor is currently using, at most you're gonna spend $250 to make it run smoothly."

Yes we know it's OBDI, all '94s are. 5.8s only got speed density, do the MAF swap.

MAF swap will open up cam selection for sure. But cam swap really wont give much power for the money and time of swap. Check NLOC.net for set of lightning GT40 heads, or pick up set of aftermarket heads, in conjunction with cam install. Or cam pick up set of GT40 from explorer and drill head bolts to 1/2 for 351.

Ok well what all will need to do for a MAF swap? And how much will that cost?
