4.6 06 f150 throttle position sensor

Hello, Im driving a 06 4.6 f150, (Issue at hand) when I come to a stop, the truck surges as if I have foot on both accerator and brake, (controled by brake) but it wants to go. It will occasionally stall, of which the battery light comes on, Starts back up, and rpms low when accelerating, I do not feel any misses at all in acceleration,

other issues, starter usually takes 2 seconds to start the engine, sometimes, 3 to 5 seconds to start, then it acks like it going to stall but stays running. (( could this be a starter going out, or deeper problems,,
thanks for your help,,,

Well first you are in the wrong section. You will likely get better help in the new model section. This area is for 96 and older. However my guess would be your IAC acting up. A good throttle body cleaning should help. Also be sure to check your codes. The obd2 system is very sensitive and provides a lot of information. If you have access to a diagnostic computer you can read exactly what is happening with the fuel system.

Well, I'm waiting for my new TPS to get to the parts store. Looks like a lot of good info above and a big thanks to the knowledgable ones for sharing. If I can find my way back to this page, I will post my results after install and test drive.

96 F150 5.8L

I bitch and cuss at Ford each and every time that I have to work on this thing,((which fortunately has been far less often than any Chevy or Dodge that I owned because Chevy spoiled me with room to breath in while working on them,...I was a Chevy man all my life(with the exception of a '48 Dodge B1B) until Chevy wouldn't deal with me back in '95( bought the Ford in Nov '95)).

Gads, I sure did hate looking out my front window each morning to see a Ford parked in my driveway. I hated it so much that I was seriously contemplating buying a bowtie to place over that awful oval. Other than a brake problem that the dealer fixed halfassed(they replaced the rotor but didn't replace the brake pads) this has been the BEST vehicle I have ever owned.

You can hate them all you want but they just keep running. I looked at dodge and Chevy when I bought my 90. The last straw was three Chevy guys advertising their late 80 early 90 trucks in great tunning condition for around $3k. One "ran great" except it over heats and needs a head gasket, one was in great condition but needs a transmission. The last straw was "runs beautiful, 4wd, new interior, new stereo. No engine or transmission. I never found out how he knew it ran so well. Chevy guys are crazy. I bought my truck for $600. I had to rebuild the breaks for $150. I've driven it everywhere as a daily driver for 5 years. Re building the transmission now for about $300.

This TPS is a SOB to get off! 1996 and Ford still uses SAE & metric. WTF???? The phillips head screws were easy(thanks to handy dandy impact driver). Getting ready to go out and put it back together.

Got it back together in a fraction of the time it took to tear it down. Still doesn't idle down like it ought to. I'm thinking maybe I should checked the throttle cable first.

The only code it had thrown after replacing plugs, wires, rotor & cap and fixing vac leak was the aft O2 sensor wasn't heating up.

One thing that really puzzled me was the inside of the manifold was coated with a thin layer of carbon.

Kept forgetting this important bit of info, it still refuses to start after running long enough to get warm, unless I put the pedal to the floor like one does when an engine is flooded.

No Codes other than PO135.

I just had a bad TPS on my 2006 5.4L. I ended up replacing the whole throttle body, but had the same high idle problem I think you are describing. No codes. Idled at 800-900rpms when approaching a stop and I'd have to hold it back with the brakes until it finally kicked down to normal 500rpms. After all the codes were cleared, it was about 2 days later when it suddenly stopped an idles normal. Been fine ever since.

JCooper, I hope I have that kind of luck. In the AM I will be going back over to AutoZone to get my codes cleared again and see what if any new codes come up if any.
