Often cheap remanufactured blocks are made with cheap parts. So if you want to build performance you can do well doing your own work. However if you just want close to factory the rebuilds are ok.

i wouldnt consider a $1000 long block to be cheap.

It is about the cheapest on the market. A high quality crank and pistons cost more than that alone. Not to mention finding a set of high performance heads. That will run you around 1500 alone.

Stock specs means no performance parts. Also, how much machine work did you have done?

had head cleaned magnafluxed all mating surfaces resurfaced and head rebuilt.
