Engines are made to be thrown away now? Interesting, they're lasting longer than ever.

Do a cost comparison of rebuilding an engine back to OEM specs and buying a rebuilt long block. Just doing it by yourself using your free labor comes close to buying the long block if you're lucky with how much machine work needs done. If you don't have the tools or knowledge to do it yourself, you would be insane to have somebody rebuild your engine instead of put a new one in. Unless you like spending thousands of dollars needlessly.

I'm not arguing that point at all.

This thread is well on its way toward setting an all-time record for postings. Nothing beats a good argument!

That's exactly my point. Which is why I suggested a reliable scientific comparison. Technically the infrared non contact thermometer will measure the temperature of the metal housing but for our purposes any reliable repeatable test method will do. Either that or HF has a screw in gauge as well. Or a multimeter with thermometer is the most accurate but expensive if you don't have one.

I don't think anything will catch up to "what do you do to your truck today?" That has over 4k postings now I believe...
