Question Tensioner

First off, CONGRATULATIONS to everyone on this forum for owning a FORD TRUCK...UNDOUBTEDLY the world's FINEST TRUCK!!!

My '94 F-150 has been rock-solid throughout its 100,000+ life, so I really haven't done much on it other than oil & filter. But yesterday I found the serpentine belt had slipped off.

I have searched all posts labeled serpentine belt or tensioner and as a result have this question:

Is the tensioner automatic? (i.e., requires NO tightening?)

If it does require tightening, then I have a problem, because the bolt -- when fully tightened -- is not snugging it up.

Thanks for the quick reply, Corey.

I'll start it up and see what happens. If the belt pops off, does that mean I need a new tensioner?

Yeah I'd say you need a new tensioner. Check all of your other pulleys though before you go spending money where you don't need it.

Thanks BTL88. I'll get on it in the morning... ...and post the result.

Smile Feedback time!

Checked alignment of all pulleys; also, all pulleys turn freely w/o any squealing. Tensioner arm also moves freely and belt is in good condition.

Installed serpentine belt and started engine. Rev'd it for about 4 minutes; belt stayed on.

I really have not done anything other than re-mount the belt both times it popped off. At this point, I have NO IDEA why it came off in the first place; it had never happened in 15 years and can't think of anything I did to cause it.

Thanks to all for your timely advice. This forum is a keeper.
I only hope I can find as friendly a forum for my Town & Country.

If the tensioner is bad it will throw that belt too eventually.

Thanks Sean. If she pops off again, I'll know what to do.
