Default Temp sensor question

Hey all, so my truck has a warm start issue. She starts up fine from cold, but after shutting it off after 10 minutes it has a hard time starting back up. The po mounted an aftermarket temp gauge which i see is connected directly to the temp sensor and nothing else.
Can this have anything to do with my warm start issue?

When you say warm start, does it have a hard time cranking over? Or does it keep cranking and sputter? Could be a number of things, and check for codes.

the truck cranks but won't catch. I'll rephrase my question, should the coolant temp sensor be transmitting information the the ecu or is its sole purpose to give me a gauge reading?

Yes, there are 2 sensors one for the gauge and one for the computer.

The coolant temp sensor for the PCM is usually located in the water outlet elbow just after the thermostat and will have at least two wires. The sending unit for the dash is usually in the water jacket of the block and has one wire and is not connected to the computer. If a temp sensor for the computer is out of range it should set a code.
Warm start issues could be a bad temp sensor or a failing ignition component like the ICM, coil, or PIP.

118 Is an high or open reading of the ECT by the ECM. I would start by checking the harness to it and replacing the ECT sensor.

Which sensor is the gauge attached to?

The gauge is attached to the sensor on the intake manifold, not he one by the thermostat housing.

Does anyone know of a good online store to purchase an ECT in Canada? specifically Montreal QC

I thought that was the air temp sensor. I think the one going to the gauge is on the side of the head or block.
