Studdering problem...plz help
91 f150 302 5spd, 155,000miles, ive owned it about a yr now and all along its had a small miss or studder once in a while only when im barely on the throttle. didnt really bother me, until lately when it got worse. feels a lot like running out of gas, but there is plenty of gas. doesnt matter which tank im on same problem. recently it has developed a cold start problem. it fires right up, but as the rpms come back down it will start to studder and drop. if i give it some gas for a few sec it comes out of it. so heres what i have replaced. tps about 9 months ago (went bad truck idled at 2800rpm), plugs wires cap n rotor fuel filter air filter all with last 2 weeks. swapped the IAC for a known good one today, no change, cleaned throttle body and egr, no change, like i said it feels like the truck leans out or starves for gas. pulled codes i think i did it right and got 13 and 23. i have another map sensor that has tested good i may try, fuel pressure reg? egr moves freely....could a bad 02 sensor cause the studder when driving? im at a loss and any help would be great sorry that its so long just wanted to try and include all the info
This sounds sooooo much like my problem i hope you get some replys! i have just started down the route you took to solve it, just put in new plugs and distributor. I find as im driving i have to flutter the gas or floor it 2 get out of the studders. Turning overdrive off does help some.
i've got a manual that does this too.. ill be driving, and it doesn't matter what gear or where in the gear shifting etc it falls away like there is no gas BUT the engine is still running as someone noted to me. meaning it drops acceleration, not all gas. my engine has never died when this happened, not lost all power and then itll come back. sometimes shorter, longer, and it will do it randomly. It didn't do it for over 2 months and then just one day. I try to drive it weekly. I've seafoamed, done a full fuel system heavy duty cleaner, beat the snot out of it, lol. I haven't checked codes because I was told they don't help much in these years and i can't just fork $80 for it ..
changed plug wires, no spark plugs.. that's due next.

i did some searching on here and it seems like there are a decent number of people with a similar problem. i swear its got to me fuel related somehow but cant figure it out. my gf's old 97 taurus had a similar problem that would come and go, finally one day it popped the check engine light. it was the dpfe (egr pressure sensor) changed it and it was better for a while, car started doin it again luike 6 months later, swapped it again and it was better but still there. its like something is either causeing it to run lean or is telling the computer to lean it out.
I know this may sound weird but I believe it to be transmission related. Do all of you have the E4OD transmission? I do and I started having the same problem recently after having the transmission rebuilt. There is also a post from yesterday from a guy on here saying he finally chased down the problem to the tranny. It threw some codes and changed some things in the tranny and it fixed it. I'm taking mine back to the shop to get checked out this week. I will post any findings.

Find out what codes 13 and 23 are for. As poor as the old EEC IV systems was, its telling you something. Unfortunately the Ford manual is a must to decypher the language and perform test repairs correctly.
