Default Steering soooo hard.

Hey guys! I am a Ford newbie. I just picked up a 93 F150 4x4 and the the steering is almost impossible to turn. Guy said he thinks the box is seized. Before I go replace the box, I thought I would see what you guys think the problem may be. Thanks!

Power steering working? Ball joints, something bent? If the box was seized it'd be impossible to turn, not hard. I'd look into it.

Can you hear the pump running? Have you checked the fluid? If the pump is shot that would do the trick plus is cheaper then the gearbox.

Were a gonna have another look at her tomorrow. Cant move it at all. gonna check the pump and u joints too. If the pump was gone you could still turn it right? I mean I think an 800 lbs gorilla could turn this but I can't. What's the best way off telling if its a u joint vs the box? Thanks again.

mine had a seized box about 14 months ago. it didnt make it impossible to turn, i just couldnt go straight without constantly adjusting my path. If i held the wheel at what was supposed to be straight, i would be completely in the other lane in 9 seconds it was that bad. When i got it replaced, it works fine, and its easier to turn the wheel.

Yeah no fluid will ruin your pump it probably need to be replaced. But there's also a reason that your fluid is gone so you should look around everywhere and see if you can find a leak.
