Default Steering Damper

For a 1990 4x4, I've got a couple questions.

For starters, is it worth it? I have massive amounts of play in my wheel, and have heard this'll tighten it right up. That doesn't seem to make sense to me.

Second, does my year/model already have one, that just probably needs a new shock?

Third, can anyone tell me if this link has everything I need?

Fourth, how in god's name do I do it?

Please and thank you!

No that will not take out steering play.

No, it's just a shock. Not a magic wand.

The stabilizer is mostly for off roading. When you hit a rock or something the steering wheel won't jerk as hard.

Not sure if this will help but this may be the only adjustment on the steering gear. Check your ball joints, pitman arm, draglink, wheel bearings also. Yes, thumbnails are convenient but imageshack won't go full size, oh well.

Well, then it's still slightly justified

Seriously though. Will it be a simple swap job, or a new install? My steering is kind of... schizophrenic, and it doesn't have anything I can give it to mellow it out that's green and leafy. I'm hoping the stabilizer would help that out.

in response to bluecar,

I don't have a cruise column anymore, I SHOULD, but I don't. I'm not sure there's an airbag in there either. Would that make a difference? My column is out of an '89.
