Default Steamed up cab

Ok guys this is a good one and probably an easy diagnosis but I have never seen it before.
it’s getting cold here in east Tn and I’ve been letting my old girl warm up good before heading out. The cab smells like straight coolant even when the heat is off. Nothing else is noticeable in the daytime. So I’ve tried a evening drive and steam rolls out the top vents and fogs up the windshield. I can already hear Steve 83 telling me that that’s the way Ford made it lol.

Sounds like a heater core gone bad! Check for damp carpet over on the passenger side and look around the box under the dash where the core is. It's a pretty easy repair to do yourself!

That’s what I was thinking but floors not damp. But definitely a antifreeze odor, and steamed up windshield so. She’s getting bypassed for a few days till I get enough YouTube expertise training in lol.thanks

Agree with all the above.

Easy-peasy changeout - takes longer to gather and put away the tools, than the time for the actual work, with the wild card being the difficulty getting the old hoses off.

Drop the glovebox, access door is right there - ez-out, ez-in.

Advice here is don't go cheap - based on past experience with a cheapie not able to put out the heat due to construction / cost-saving short-cuts.

That’s good to know that the hard part is the hoses. I’ve recently replaced the hoses and yesterday I bypassed them so I could get to work. Was a chilly ride. I’m going to try and hunt a new core down today.

Got the heater core swapped out. She puts some real heat out now. Thanks for the tips, it actually did take twice as long to find an 8mm socket than it did to do the entire job.
now when I go to look for a 1/2” I will find a hundred 8mm. Can’t wait for something else breaks lol. Thanks again

Appreciate the follow-up - enquiring mind here is always interested to hear how things turned out,
"Can’t wait for something else breaks lol." Be careful what you ask for, these trucks aim to please and rarely disappoint. :-)~

I’ve owned this truck for about 8 yrs. she keeps the tools dusted off for sure. But nothing majorly bad. Head, plugs, clutch, a couple starters,2waterpumps, distributor, breaks, u joints, and about 1000 door handles. So far. Everything done under the tree.
can’t always say it’s always running strong but always running. Crap I need to find some wood.
