Default starting problems

hi i recently did an engine swap in my 93 f 150 the guy who had it before me converted a 302 from either a 72 torino/fairlane into a EFI. i just recently pulled a 87-89 302 EFI out of a f150 from a junk yard and since then i have not been able to get it to start i had to use the original wiring harness set up that came with the truck along with the distributor. since putting the motor in, my fuel pump has failed to prime with the ignition. this particular model engine block has the knock sensor in the rear of the motor, unfortunately the sensor is broke but i found out one day by accident, a ground wire brushed up against the plug of the sensor and the fuel pumps started priming although im still not getting fuel to my fuel rail and im also back firing out of the intake when i squirt gas directly into the manifold. i have set the timing several times but am not sure if the distributor being from an older 302 along with the knock sensor not being there is whats making my truck not fire at the right time any suggestions guys????

Are you sure it’s a knock sensor I was thinking the only motors in that year range that had them were the 4.9s. It sounds like with it backfiring that the timing is off and the pump not running with the key could be a ground problem .These trucks have a bunch of ground straps on them someone else probably can give you an exact number but I'm guessing at least 6.
Another thought is that the motor you pulled is not the original motor from that truck and is a HO motor, which has a different firing order than a regular 302. But I don’t think those had knock sensors either, but I may be wrong on that.

You must have a 1987-up EFI 5.0L Distributor installed for it to work correctly.

The distributor has a sensor inside (PIP) and it must be connected to the EEC wiring.

The (ICM) Ignition Control Module must be hooked up as well.

The Knock Sensor is not the reason it will not run.

There are two Relays under the hood on the driver's side,
but you already know about those though... Right?

Yes the Ignition Control Module is VERY important, it kept my truck from sparking until I replaced it, before, mine turned over but wouldn't start! (thanks 1987!)

You're going to the Junk Yard to get a Fuel Pump?

Need some help from more experience members, sounds to me the 93 truck has one fireing order 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. The engine from the 87 could be 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. If I am correct, the camshafts are different.
