Default Speedometer Shorting out

I believe my speedometer is shorting out because when it rains it stops working. I have looked at the plug on the tranny for it and it looked ok. is this a common problem for a 5 speed with overdrive in a 1992 with a 302? and if so how did some of you guys fix it? Thanks

The plug on the tranny is for the reverse lights.

I think the plug you are looking for is on the rear end if I'm not mistaken: correct me if I'm wrong.

My reverse lights have never worked either. Could the wiring be bad or something? not sure what to be looking for anymore..

You would have to test the switch and circuit.

Yes the speedometer sensor is on the rear end.

Another idea is that the fuse for the speedo is also the fuse for the dome/cab light. If your outside cab light isn't sealed well and water is getting in there it could be shorting out from up there. Check to see if it is wet in there.

Yes, the dome light shorting out is a common problem which also kills the speedo.
