Default smog filter

Do I still need this? I have aftermarket cats, and there not hooked up to the smog system. Thanks

A roadside DOT inspector might miss the line to the cats but if they make you open the hood and see that missing.....The fine here is up to $10,000 for disconnecting emissions systems and your truck gets pulled off the road.
If you take it off, best not to throw it away.
But maybe they don't worry about it where you are

It's not as much a filter as it is a muffler. You'll definitely know the canister is gone with the smog pump in place. You can remove the canister and make your own filter/silencer. I made my own and it's been working fine for about two years. Opened up a ton of room on the passenger's side fender well.

You can also relocate the vacuum canister to the driver's side under the washer/coolant reservoir. The fender well is predrilled or the vac can in that spot.
