Its not a back pressure issue. Its flow rate. If your pipes are too big you will have too slow of a flow. Properly working cats actually have more volume than 3" pipes so they don't really effect flow by design. They reduce sound a little due to the ceramic so people think they reduce power. But unless they are clogged they only reduce emissions. Removing the air pump by deleting the belt will increase emissions and provides no gain. Its nothing but a low pressure air pump and has almost no resistance. The fresh air is added to unburned exhaust at start up to reburn it. The reburn warms the engine up and heats the primary cat as well as eliminating the excess fuel from running rich at cold start. After a few seconds it switches downstream and warms the secondary cat to help it start working and burn off carbon build up. A few more seconds and it switches to atmosphere where it really does nothing. So in short you gain nothing but a shorter belt, more emissions and carbon build up in your exhaust. But hey the belt is shorter. By the way this is the secondary air injection system, or the AIR system. Its primary purpose is to reduce carbon and NOx at startup. If you don't believe that it takes no power they spinning the pump by hand. If you feel any resistance its damaged.
