My front shocks need to be replaced and I was wondering what brand to go with and what brands to stay away from. I have a 1994 F150 XL. Also how hard would this be to do myself I have never replaced shocks on a car or a truck I have looked at it on my truck and it seems like it would be something I could handle, any imput is greatly appreciated

I put monroe sensa treacs on mine and they made a difference on my 94xlt. Well that was compared to 14 year factory ones they replaced.

You shouldn't have any problem swapping them. Couple bolts on each shock and swap.

Spend the little extra money, buy yourself a set of Bilsteins....they are worth every penny.....Rancho/ superlift/ monroe/ and like 20 other brands are all made by the same company and Im not a fan of Hydraulic shocks....Nitro charged like the bilsteins are the best ride and best handling shocks for the money.....about $84 a piece for 5100 series

 

Honestly, i just went with the cheapest ones autozone had that. The difference was very noticable. The hardest part of changing the fron shocks is getting the top bolt out. The inner fender was what was in the way if i remember right.

 

I'm in the process of changing mine. The top nut on the front shocks are 14mm and the bottom nut and bolt are 18mm. That was my first problem, I didn't have an 18mm socket. The rear shocks have 18mm nut and bolt on the top and bottom. The fronts are easy. The rear are the tough ones in my opinion. Can't get good leverage. I'm going to use an impact to bust them loose. I went with BDS brand shocks. I was going to get Bilsteins but to pricey for me at the moment.

 

cool thanks for the heads up man I'm looking at Gabriel shocks all the others are way up there in price just like you said lol I don't have money for that right now either would be cool to put 60-100 dollat shocks on but it's not going to happen lol 200 bucks for 2 shocks nooo way that's my gas money for the month haha I also just got my touch-up paint in today woohoo lol so hopefully my truck will turn out good in the couple of spots that have been scratched up from the previous owner

 

If you want a good shock but don't want a high price tag rancho 1700's i think is what they are...they are an inexpensive gas charged shock....you do not want a cheapo hyraulic shock, the ride will suck.....I know on one of my project trucks I build a chevy colorado and even with the AAL for the lift the gas charged shocks made all the difference it rode better than stock....

 

you know I never really thought of going to a gas shock huh thanks for the input bud I'm going to have to look into that

 

no prob...they are the only route to go....you will not regret the extra money for them
