Default Shift problem

Hi all
My 92 Ford 4x4 F150 pick-up, 302 auto trans, has recently began a bucking prior to an up shift of the trans. If I press the peddle to the floor she will downshift, and the bucking goes away for awhile. This seems to happen at random and not everyday. Was wondering if this is a sign of a vacum problem or something else. Any ideas?

Mine was doing this too. And I'm not sure what fixed it. I had the tranny flushed and filled with synthetic fluid, which made everything work better. I added a tube of 'shudder fix' to the trans fluid, which helped too. I replaced the RABS and VSS sensors and that helped too.

I don't know which one would improve your situation or if you've already tried any of these, but worth looking into.

Thanks, I'll try the same and see if it helps me. I forgot to say that the engine light comes on now and then also. Maybe that code will point to the shift problem. I hate to spend 60. bucks on a reader though

You don't need a reader. This thread explains how to check for codes: https://www.f150forum.com/f10/how-retrieve-trouble-codes-obdi-10907/
