SAS the DEBATE
ok so since i have owned my truck and it hasnt been long i have seen a dozen or so threads on it and every one there is a different way to do it. and just as many reasons to do it or not to. though the one way i havent seen is just swapping out the frame with one from a f350. will the frames even swap?
i have a 94 f150 xtended cab 4x4 shortbed. now i havent found a f350 in this configuration but i have found 96 f250 to have this set up. but are they sas or ttb. could say a f350 single cab 8ft bed frame work. is there anywhere i can find the different dimensions of the frames.
now i am not planning the swap. this is just a subject thats been bugging me and since i am new to 4x4's i wanted to bring it up.

You could swap the cab to the new frame, but I think it would be easier to put the axle on your frame. Not sure about the cab and bed mounts, but I did use an extended cab shortbed driveshaft in my regular cab longbed so that might work.
yes the frames on most of the trucks are interchangeable. i'm running a 86 f250 chassis under a 95 f150 body and engine.
the f250 is a ttb( it will not bolt to the f150 frame, and the f150 ttb will not bolt to the f250 frame.
you wont find a f350 extended cab short bed i've never seen one so if they are even out there they are RARE.
you could just the f250 frame and later on switch to a f350-dana 60 front axle later, they swap right in.

nope not until they switched to the new superduty body in 1998.
and they didnt even offer a strait axle f350 from 1980-1985. the f350's had the dana 50 ttb.
1986 they went to the dana 60 in the f350 and the f250 you could get a dana 44 ttb or a dana 50 ttb then in the 90's the f250 got the dana 50 ttb only.

you have huh? do you know the difference or even what TTB means??
tell my f250 4x4 that it is wrong for having a TTB then.
from 1980-1997 f250 trucks never came with a soild axle from the factory.

i do know the difference between the two systems i have seen a 97 f250 and i think it was a 95 that both had solid axles though it is possible they were switched i didnt own them and cant speak for there history you obviously own one though and can vouch for it better than i can i was mistaken just going by what i saw my apologies for the false info
this is what i have been able to find for the dana 60 on when ford used it.

1989-ford-f150 i have seen a wrecked frame replaced in as little as 8 hours once all the parts were there and ready. but that was in a shop using an OEM replacement frame.
i would assume that trucks with the same options it would be a direct bolt in. with using say, a frame from a f350 single cab with a 8ft bed under a f150 extended cab 6ft bed work? would the mounts need to be moved or cut off one frame and added to the other?
i guess the real question would be how to do a solid axle swap with as little fab as possible?
