Default running issues

okay guys got some issues goin on, i got a 1990 f250 4X4, 351 E4od trans, beside the fact the trans has its own set of issues the truck will shut off at random time when im driving or it is just sitting idleing. i replaced the ignition switch on the column an the old one did have some corrosion on it. cleaned the plug on the harness an it got better but still acts up. ended up putting a new starter on it and new rods in the column ( bad luck with rods, 3rd set, 2nd truck) so im starting to run out of ideas, anyone got any to help? much appreciated

You'll need to write them all down in order to try and locate the problem. You can do it yourself very easily. There is a sticky on how to read then with a jumper wire.

i plan to get the codes pulled tomorow before work. ill put em on here then and see if i can get anywhere with them. i did adjust the ignition switch thinking it might be loose then just let the truck run till it shut off, first time was after 15 min an then i proceeded to start it up right after and it shut off after 5. also thinking it could be the ignition module possibly, could it overheat and just give out?

Yes. Check for spark when it quits. It could be on it's way out.

sorry been workin and on the truck this past weekend. so went to replace the ignition control module, distributor cap rotor spark plugs and wires. replaced it all put it right back the way it was, didnt start, played with the distributor got it running, shut off down the rd, that was sat, let it sit for the night, sun got it to my garage an started tracing engine wires, ive only had this one for a couple months, found out that the truck was timed on the 2nd stroke and the distributor was wired backwards and honestly im not sure how she was running at all, so conclusion of my problem is either A bad ignition control module and distributor cap and rotor or B combination of that and the fact it was wired completely wrong from the start. thanks for the help from everyone

So it's completely fixed? Just double checking. My 95 had the same symptoms and it was the iac valve. Thought I had it fixed several times and it would just die at the worst possible time. Finally parked it for 6 months when a Ford mechanic told me to change the iac valve. No code present either. Replaced the valve and no more problem.

You might also have to look at the pickup in the distributor. I just had to deal with that and it seems to be a very common problem. (weak link). Sounds like someone (who maybe didn't know what they were doing) was playing with that distributor before you bought it, so I think I'd start there. Your symptoms are consistent with a bad pickup in the distributor so it's a possibility.
