Default Replacing clutch help!

'96 Ford F-150 2WD. My clutch went out on me today and was wondering if anyone had a write up on a how-to. I got a quote for $800 and can't afford that so I need to replace it myself. Thanks in advanced!

Is it the clutch itself or the clutch slave cylinder? Does you're pedal go straight to the floor and won't come up or does it release normally and the truck wont move in either direction?

Had a mechanic look at it and he said all the fluid was in terrible condition, the clutch felt spongy. My problem is that it is really hard to put into gear. Multiple times I have to turn the truck off, put it into gear, the crank it back up.

That's not a clutch problem, it's a hydraulics problem.

try replacing the fluid... simple to do..

Open the bleeder and let it all run out. pour in new when its empty to flush it out...

then close bleeder and fill... without the rubber boot in the cap put on the lid and pump up the pedal.... see if that fixes it... if not new cylinder time and they are cheap... 35.00
